I’m going to go out on a limb here and take a guess that this is the task you are least looking forward to. It’s amazing just how expensive wedding plans can become as budgets spiral wildly out of control. Small costs can quickly stack up and become a gigantic cloud of doom looming over your wedding plans, sucking the joy out of the experience. Try to avoid getting too stressed about this(easier said than done) but you don’t want it to ruin your entire wedding as you will regret it forever. Here is our guide to making the wedding payments in the most efficient way possible.
If you haven’t already done so, the first thing to do is determine the budget. Once you have this in place, try your best to stick to it as this will prevent excessive over-spending which will just add to your stresses.
Start planning the final payments as soon as you can, this will help make sure you have enough money in the bank to cover them when the time comes. Again, a big stress-saver.
Take a look at how much money you can afford to set aside each month then multiply this figure by how many months until your wedding to find out how much you can save by the time your wedding comes. Is there enough? If not, you may need to cut some costs or source alternative finance.
We’ve built a wedding costs spreadsheet to help you in managing the costs. Add the total cost due in the first column and the amount already paid(deposits) in the second column. This will give you a quick snapshot of the total wedding cost as well as the amount outstanding to help you stay on top of any upcoming payments. Add the due dates of each payment then “sort by date” to give you an overview of when payments are due. This allows you to budget accordingly to ensure you have enough money to cover all payments.
And finally, using your costs spreadsheet as guidance, start paying each vendor through their preferred payment method, marking this off your spreadsheet as you go. As devastating as it may be to spend so much money in such a short amount of time, it will feel great getting these costs ticked off your spreadsheet.
Once all the payments have been made, you will feel like the cloud has been lifted and once again you can look towards your wedding, enjoying that strange mix of excitement, fear, joy and panic!
