What is your most memorable wedding?
It would have to be my first ever bridal booking I did overseas in France. The weather was perfect, we did the make-up and hair out on the balcony of this huge castle! It was such a stunning view while I was getting her ready.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
I don’t have a signature style and I never want to. My aim is to give my client what they want and what suits them, whether it be a bride or on set for a national campaign. Having a signature style means I’d only be creating a certain type of look and I love make-up and hair styling too much to narrow my skills into perfecting a signature style. I want to deliver a final product whereby my client leaves my chair feeling completely satisfied, confident and unique.
What about your business are you most proud of?
Having a billboard campaign that I worked on being all around the Midlands! Driving around and seeing my advert around the city centre was phenomenal!
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Set a date, get researching! A lot of businesses get booked well in advanced, if you want to get the suppliers you would like it is highly recommended to book in as soon as possible.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
Bride & Groom had printed out thank you scrolls for the immediate family. It had the mother of the bride and groom both in an emotional state of happy tears.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
Bride's will enquiry, sometimes even the groom! I always start off with getting an idea of what a bride has in mind for her look to get and state quote over. Typically, I then commence with booking a bride in for a trial, I usually recommend this in advance to try out and see what a bride is comfortable and happy with. We go through several looks and styles until the bride is happy with what she wants. Thereafter I book the bride in to secure her date/s with deposits and booking forms. After this, the bride can sit back and relax knowing I'll be there on the day and she can continue to move on to other wedding planning. I touch base nearer the wedding to check if the bride has changed her outfit/accessories, as this can happen. I may request the bride to come back into the studio if any further changes are needed. There are cases whereby a bride books in before her trial, which is no problem but I still recommend trials. On the wedding day I spend a good amount of time doing hair, make-up and the dressing, a bride should not be rushed. The hair and make-up should be an experience, it is the first thing you do in the wedding morning and it should be enjoyable journey of getting ready! I then will stay for pictures with the photographer. There are cases where brides need me to stay for longer, need to meet up for consultations more often, etc, and this is not an issue, ever bride is different and unique so their process may be slightly different as it is all tailored to what each bride needs and wants.
What do you love most about your job?
Meeting and building great relationships with my clients. I believe you attract certain types of people into your life, I'm very fortunate that I attract brides who are exactly like myself, it usually feels like I'm getting a best friend ready for her wedding day as I get to know my clients so well.
What is your No. 1 beauty tip for a bride?
Good skincare is the base of any good make-up. I recommend seeing a dermatologist before the wedding to get your skin in great oncdition so your make-up will look even more flawless! And as every make-up artist will say... drink plenty of water it makes a HUGE difference to your skin.
How do you keep the bride feeling calm on her wedding day?
Keeping a bride calm on the day starts from when a bride sends an enquiry. I try not to keep brides waiting too long for a reply, I keep in contact regularly, and send reminders during the wedding week to ensure they are all prepped in advance for the day to eliminate stress. I'm big on time keeping, I feel like lateness stresses out a bride so I always turn up on time. I have lots of different music playlists for my brides depending on how they are feeling, so that's the final cherry on the top, they can choose between love, romantic songs or jazz up the morning with some more upbeat music!
What advice would you give to brides to stay looking great throughout their wedding day?
Absorb as much as you can about the day, it will go so fast. Be sure to just focus on what you're doing. When you are getting your dress on, be present in that moment to remember it, if you think ahead too much it will go by so fast and you won't even remember the morning.
