- Hello, my name is Sarah and my business is called Pin Up Curl. I've had a passion for vintage hairstyles for many years, and love to share that passion with the brides I style. Whether it's just a hint of an era, or period perfect, I specialise in the 20s to the 60s. Think fingerwaves, rolls and curls, Hollywood waves and beehives. I'm based in Derby, and cover all areas of the East and West Midlands. I will come to your getting ready venue on the day of your wedding and help make your experience one to remember. I also add a calming influence I've been told! I'll even stay to help you into your dress, fasten your shoes and dry off your bouquet. I always recommend a trial before your day, at least 2 months before. That way I can get to know your hair, see what suits you, decide on timings and we can get to know each other. And with all of that I design and make hair accessories. You can have the whole package - hair for you and your party, with bespoke handmade accessories. I work with you from the first consultation to the final piece to create a unique piece just for you.

What is your most memorable wedding?
Sam - I have a sentimental attachment to Sams wedding as she's a good friend. We became friends through jive classes and styling her hair. To be asked to style her and her bridal party's hair was an absolute honour. She wanted something 20s inspired, which is one of my favourite eras to style, and we laughed and cried in equal measure.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Unique, vintage, glamorous, elegant, bespoke
What about your business are you most proud of?
I have grown it from a glimmer of an idea in my head 3 years ago whilst working full time in a completely different field, and it continues to grow.
What is your #1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Book early to avoid disappointment l
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
A mother of the bride giving her daughter her mothers necklace to wear. I had to look away from such a private and bittersweet moment
Describe your typical process with a couple.
from the initial enquiry we will chat online or by phone about what the bride is looking for, her dress and headpiece, and hair type. We will then book a trial and I will advise if the chosen styles will be suitable for the bride to be. The trial happens, with another if she wants to look at an alternative. On the day I will arrive at a pre determined time to style everyone, slipping away quietly or giving good luck hugs, whatever the situation demands! Once it is determined that your date is available I take a £50 deposit to secure your date, and taking outstanding payments 2 weeks before the wedding.
What do you love most about your job?
Helping to make many brides very happy!
What is your #1 beauty tip for a bride?
Be true to yourself. Don't try to look like someone different. Be you.
How do you keep the bride feeling calm on her wedding day?
reassuring words, telling them that if it's not done it doesn't matter, everything she needs is right here. Advising breathing exercises if needed, and sometimes they are! Just being me and making them feel like they are in good hands.
What advice would you give to brides to stay looking great throughout their wedding day?
Any good make up artist and hair stylist will have been a big part of this anyway. Professionally applied make up should stay put, professionally styled hair should withstand all the hugs and dancing during the day. But, to be cliched, beauty really does come from within. The best way to look great all day is smile, be happy, be in love, enjoy every moment.
