What is your most memorable wedding?
Oh gosh! That's a tough one! All my weddings are memorable. They all have a special something I will remember and take with me. I had one bride a couple of years back who contacted me to say she was struggling to find a Makeup Artist who could cater to the look the wanted for her big day. I love a challenge, and once she told me what she was after I couldn't wait to design the look! This lovely lady got married at Twycross zoo and wanted a 'Peacock' inspired makeup look on her eyes; masquerade style. I will always remember at her trial she gave me a big hug after we had completed the look. She was so happy. That Wedding day was a day to remember!
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Makeup style; Unique, Creative, Classic, Bespoke, Adaptive Business Style; Professional, Accomodating, Friendly, Integral, Trustworthy.
What about your business are you most proud of?
I left a secure, full time job to pursue the dream I had of being a freelance makeup artist. I built this business, from scratch; dabbling in different areas of the makeup industry. I worked on alot of photoshoots and a little TV work, but found my passion was in Bridal Makeup. I launched 'Ruth Elizabeth Brides' in 2012 and have never looked back. I absolutely love my job, and the 15 years I spent previously working on Makeup counters, and training was the perfect experience to take with me, into this industry.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
If you know of a professional you would like to use for your wedding day, or you see someones work you like, book them asap! Many brides book their Venue/Photographer very early in advance but leave hair and makeup alot later. More established artists do get booked up, around 1-2 years ahead. So if you have your heart set on an artist or Wedding supplier of any kind, contact them sooner rather than later!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
People involving their pets is such a huge thing at the moment! I've seen many brides also print off photographs of loved ones, passed. They frame them and have them placed in certain areas at the wedding venue. I love that.
What do you love most about your job?
Being involved in a brides big day. To take part in something that will be so memorable, and to know that I am helping create special memories.
What is your No. 1 beauty tip for a bride?
Take care of your skin! I always say skin first, makeup second! Bin the face wipes and start cleansing, toning and moisturising. Tailor your skincare to your skin needs, and age. Once you do, the difference in how your makeup looks, sit and wears will be significant. Any professional makeup artist should discuss this with you at your Bridal trial.
How do you keep the bride feeling calm on her wedding day?
I always set makeup times out, before the day. This ensures makeup is not rushed, and no one is left feeling stressed! I always advise brides to think about who they want with them on the morning. I have seen many brides go from happy and joyful to stressed and tearful due to too many people being around them. Once you have your bridal party, your close family, the hairdresser, makeup artist and photographer in one room - any extra people can start to make the bride feel overwhelmed. Always take advice from your professionals. They do this every week, and want to ensure you enjoy your day! You've spent a long time planning this day, it will be fabulous! Sit back and let everyone pamper you now, you deserve it!
What advice would you give to brides to stay looking great throughout their wedding day?
Discuss this with your makeup artist, at your trial. Skincare is more than often, overlooked. But the better condition your skin is in the better your makeup will wear during the day. I always provide, for each of my brides; a mini touch up bag. It contains a powder puff ( to keep shine at bay ) a small pot of their bespoke lipstick and a small pot of concealer. These are all you need to keep your face looking fresh and shine free.
