What is your most memorable wedding?
I had the honour of creating a wedding cake for a couple where the bride had a terminal illness, it was the most special wedding I have attended. The emotion and happiness on the day was beyond anything I have ever seen.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
indulgent, chic, creative, on trend, inspiring.
What about your business are you most proud of?
I very proud to of won Cake Designer at The Dorset Wedding Supplier Awards the last 2 years. It is a massive achievement as I am a one woman business.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
To enjoy the planning, for me it's all part of the wedding experience.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
I love it when couples include those family members into their day that are no longer with us, I've seen beautiful pictures on display at the venue, a sentimental piece of jewellery incorporated into a bouquet, and even a song a father wrote played at a reception.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
As a one-woman business I only take on a limited amount of commissions per week to ensure that I have time to give each and every cake the time and care it deserves. When you initially get in touch I can give you a guide price and make suggestions on the size of cake required to serve your guest numbers. Your booking is confirmed in my diary after the completion of a booking form alongside a £150 deposit. Once confirmed you will be invited to an exclusive consultation to discuss your wedding cake and try lots of our delicious flavours. From the consultation, I will produce your cake package & your cake design as well as a detailed quote.
1 month before your wedding I will run through the details of your cake to ensure there are no changes and the balance of your cake is then due.
During your wedding week, behind the scenes I liaise with your venue to discuss delivery and any other requests, speak to any other wedding suppliers involved with the cake such as your florist and keep a very careful watch on the weather forecasts as this may affect where a cake is set up and dictate delivery times.
On the day, I personally deliver and set up your cake to ensure it looks perfect and, in the lead up to your wedding I am always available to answer any queries.
What is your signature cake?
I am very well known locally for my semi naked and naked cakes as I love all things natural and the fusion between cake and fresh flowers is a style I love to explore. My designs are also recognised for their unique styled look and beautiful sugar flowers.
What is the most original creation you have baked for a wedding?
All of my creations are original and bespoke designs, I try my best to capture the personality of the couple in every design.
Describe how you got into making wedding cakes.
I started baking when I was working as a charity fundraiser for a local charity who support children and adults with profound medical needs, and one of my fundraising initiatives was to write a cookery book, which to date has sold over 5000 copies. It sparked my love of baking and when my contract ended I set up my own baking business and the rest is history.
What would be your show stopper in the Great British Bake Off?
Definitely cake, and the taller the better. I'd love to create something that pushes the limit of engineering within the cake and go tall, using lots of abstract textured pattern. I love it when I get the opportunity to be creative.
