What is your most memorable wedding?
It has to be a New Year's Eve wedding. I arrived to set up the cake just as the couple and their guests moved into the dining room to be seated for the wedding breakfast and the atmosphere was absolutely alive. You could feel the joy and energy in the room, it was magical!
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Creative, whimsical, nature-inspired, contemporary and artistic.
What about your business are you most proud of?
Building a business from scratch, doing what I love and finding my own style. It's a privilege to be able to unleash your creativity and design something unique for each and every couple and I never tire of talking about cake!
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Try not to lose sight of what the day is about (YOU) and try to enjoy the wedding planning process!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
It was actually at a family wedding. The couple gifted a beautiful flower posy to those guests who had recently lost a loved one in their memory. It was a sensitive and thoughtful touch.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
I always suggest a consultation so that we can discuss your requirements and design ideas, and of course taste some cake. It's a great way for me to get to know a couple and vice versa, and I can really get a good feel for what you envisage for your wedding cake. I can then draw up a design based on our discussion and provide a quotation. Consultations are charged at £25, which is deducted from the cost of your cake should you proceed with an order.
What is your signature cake?
It has to be my Secret Garden cake (see main picture). I designed and created it for a styled wedding shoot and it proved to be such a popular design that I will be making three variations of it, each one unique to each couple, for weddings this year.
What is the most original creation you have baked for a wedding?
It will have to be my Secret Garden cake again. It's a free-flowing, nature-inspired design that looks like it could have grown out of the ground. Perfect for a woodland style wedding!
Describe how you got into making wedding cakes.
Years ago I signed up to do an evening course in cake making just for the hell of it and it turned into a hobby, that turned into a passion and finally, after years of making cakes for friends and family, I launched into my own business leaving behind the 9 to 5 job.
What would be your show stopper in the Great British Bake Off?
Ooh good question! Something tiered and rustic using beautiful edible flowers.
