Our bespoke wedding cakes have been enjoyed by thousands of wedding guests across the UK. Every cake is individually designed in collaboration with the couple, drawing inspiration from the style and feel of your wedding and the things you love. We invite every prospective wedding couple to a tasting and design consultation where you can try our delicious cakes and we can discuss design ideas in more detail. "Having grown up in a household where baking was a daily activity you could say that becoming a professional cake maker was always on the cards. Many of the recipes and techniques I use in my cakes have been handed down through my bake-loving family! No celebration or family gathering was complete without cake. I graduated from Art School with a First Class degree in Fine Art Sculpture and spent 10 years working with some of the UK’s most acclaimed artists to curate public art installations. I continue to seek inspiration from the art world and many of my cakes have been inspired by the work of artists and designers, such as William Morris and Mischa Tauber. Following a career break to start a family, in 2011 I formed Claire Owen Cakes, bringing together all aspects of my creative skill set. My cakes have been commissioned by style-savvy wedding couples and corporate clients looking for a unique statement cake, including Cath Kidston and Holkham Hall. Many of my clients are artists, designers and stylists. I love creating cakes which take your breath away and that are irresistibly delicious. I relish the challenge of an unusual or quirky commission. But most of all, I love being a creative part of the most important celebrations in people’s lives." - Claire Owen

What is your most memorable wedding?
Honestly? My own! I made my own cake which took forever - hundreds of handcut flowers - but it was the cake that gave me the confidence so start my business and is holds a very special place in my heart for everything that it represented.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Exquisite, elegant, original, showstopping, delicious
What about your business are you most proud of?
Starting something from the ground up, that grew from the odd cake here and there to multi big-orders weekly.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Throw the rule book out of the window! Make it yours, eat the cake, dance to the music, say the vows that YOU want!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
A farming family's son came to his parents to announce his engagement, swiftly followed by a request to hold the reception in a dilapidated barn on their farm! Over 9 months, the whole family came together to renovate the barn, replacing beams, rebuilding stone walls, laying a new floor. The love that went in to that space was amazing and the result... the most magical space I have ever seen!
Describe your typical process with a couple.
I invite every prospective wedding couple to a free, no-obligation tasting and consultation where I invite them to choose four flavours of cake to try and we can chat together about the style of the wedding and how they would like their cake to look. You can come with no ideas or a folder full! Usually there is lots of drawing, tea drinking and enthusiastic conversation after which I make a drawing of the cake and produce a detailed quote. I like to keep an ongoing dialogue with each couple and am happy for the design of the cake to evolve as the wedding planning progresses. I liaise directly with the venue with regards to set-up and delivery to try and make the cake part of your wedding one of the most enjoyable parts of the planning process!
What is your signature cake?
All my cakes are bespoke and my style evolves with every wedding so I don't really have a 'signature' design!
What is the most original creation you have baked for a wedding?
A 1920s-inspired cake, all white, with tiers separated by vintage glass pedstal dishes and covered in long wired cascades of stylised sugar lily of the valley.
Describe how you got into making wedding cakes.
My background is in the Arts and I have a first class sculpture degree. I had a career break to start a family, and after making a few wedding cakes for friends I decided to combine my baking and creative skillsets and launch my own cake studio.
