What is your most memorable wedding?
My most memorable wedding would have to be a peacock themed wedding I did back in 2012. I got on so well with the couple they invited me to the wedding! Their cake was a display of peacock feather stenciled cupcake toppers, with a mix of green, blue and clear edible diamonds on swirls of ganache with a peacock feather stenciled large cake for their "cutting" photo. The display was absolutely beautiful when finished.
my customer service. I work very hard on making sure that I understand what each couple are wanting for their day and work with them to keep it stress free; this should be a day they enjoy the most and I will do whatever I can to make sure they do.
What is your #1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Make sure you understand thoroughly what your suppliers can (or can't) do for you within their services. There's nothing worse than getting to your big day, with you leaving important jobs to guests or family members, which could easily have been done by your suppliers. We're all here to make your day perfect, so use us! sit back and enjoy your day with your family and friends!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
It was actually the "We do" phrase that my bride and groom asked me to put on their cake! They wanted everyone to know this was a joint day and a joint decision - so the We Do was a very important message to them!
Describe your typical process with a couple.
After the initial contact, I will ask the couple to either send me or bring along to the consultation, pictures of cakes they've seen that they like. I ask for as many as possible to really understand the styles they like. If they have seen a specific cake they want then I like to remind them I don't "copy" but will take that style and design as the influence and then work with them to get a cake that is bespoke to them. They will leave a deposit based on the final design and to reserve the date. 6 weeks before the wedding I will check that the design is still the same and all the numbers/sizes of cakes are the same - adjust the final price to account for any changes and then take the final payment. 2 weeks before the wedding I will begin to start making decorations as necessary for the cake (sugarpaste models, flowers, etc). Photos will be emailed over to the couple to check they are happy with them. Baking begins as close as possible to their wedding date, depending on the scale of the finished design (amount of decorating, etc). A photo will be sent over to them again to check they are happy with the finished cake. Delivery and set up will happen on the day of the wedding and I take photos again of the cake in place.
What is your signature cake?
My signature cake is a topsy-turvey "World of Love" cake - it has been revamped in different colours for several couples! I try to keep each version unique from the last so that each couple's cake is bespoke to them
What is the most original creation you have baked for a wedding?
Not everyone likes a wedding "cake" and this was definitely the inspiration behind one of my cake collections! I do what I call the "Old Skool Favorites!" which is a collection of non-cakes that can be made into beautiful displays - like giant cookie towers, doughnut towers, giant doughnut wedding cakes, giant cupcakes, mini-giant cupcakes, etc.
Describe how you got into making wedding cakes.
Fantasweets started out as a children's party activity - much like you'd take them bowling or to the soft play centre! At one of the parties, one of the parents enjoyed my cakes so much she booked me for her wedding to make a 100 cupcake tower - the wedding side escalated from there. I rarely go to wedding fairs and find that i'm booked through word of mouth or by being on sites like this!
What would be your show stopper in the Great British Bake Off?
now this is a very interesting question! I think it would be a tower of the "Old Skool Favorites"! This might sound garish but it would be beautiful and very different!
