What is your most memorable wedding?
Every wedding has a special place in my heart. From small to large, simple to intricate, each cake is just as important as another, representing each couples dreams for their wedding day.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
classic, elegant, timeless, quality, outstanding
What about your business are you most proud of?
All the amazing feedback I get from my very happy couples - that's what makes this business so special.
What is your #1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Spend a little time before you come to your consultation getting a feel for what styles of cake you like and don't worry about what anyone else thinks or likes - your cake is all about you!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
Surprise extra's on the cake like little models around the back of special people, pets or hobbies.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
After initial contact either via email or wedding fairs, couples are invited to my home for a relaxed chat and cake tasting consultation to discuss their cake ideas. They get to view my portfolio, display cakes and taste loads of samples, whilst I start to draw up their designs. After the consultation, I produce a full schedule for their cake and formally draw their design(s) up and then email these to them for consideration. Booking is via a £100 deposit, which secures the date in the diary. We chat over the following months as elements of the cake are finalised/amended where necessary (such as flowers, lace designs, toppers) and then 6 weeks before the wedding everything is approved and final payment is made. The week of the wedding I liaise with the couple to confirm delivery arrangements that I have made with the venue and the cakes are then delivered and set up on the day of the wedding.
What is your signature cake?
I don't have a signature cake as such, as each cake is so individual to each couple, but icing flowers and customised lace taken directly from the bride's wedding dress are my specialties. And as for flavours - chocolate orange made with Terry's Chocolate Orange, my raspberry bakewell cake and strawberries and champagne are some of the favourites.
What is the most original creation you have baked for a wedding?
The most unusual design was my chess board from Star Trek, but I see every cake as original as the whole process is about creating a cake that means the world to 2 people, the Bride and Groom.
Describe how you got into making wedding cakes.
From a young age I always loved making things so when I got married 17 years ago I wanted to create something special. My husbands grandfather used to make cakes and kindly offered to make the cake but couldn't decorate it, so that was my perfect opportunity. After a couple of local evening classes on cake decorating I was off, and I've never looked back. There is no better feeling than when you see the look on someones face when they see their cake for the first time!!
What would be your show stopper in the Great British Bake Off?
Know this sounds terrible, but I don't get a chance to watch GBBO as I'm always baking cakes so I couldn't really put forward a show stopper - I know they'd love the different flavours I offer and the moist cakes I create though. There'd have to be cascades of flowers and intricate detailing all set on immaculate icing.
