Frequently Asked Questions

What is your most memorable wedding?

A bouquet of all pine cones and contorted hazel. My bride had a severe allergy to fresh flowers and was considering silk flowers until she saw a pine cone bouquet I'd made for a wedding fayre display. On her request, I sprayed a few of the pine cones gold and made the bouquet a little bigger and she loved it!

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Creative, bespoke, traditional, contemporary, very floral.

What about your business are you most proud of?

Exclusivity! As a free-lance florist, I can offer a personal one-to-one service, working with my brides to create bespoke wedding designs.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Book your wedding date with me as soon as possible to avoid disappointment, as I will only book one wedding on any one date.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

One of my favourites was a ribbon curtain created by one of my brides, to hang behind the top table. She created it herself from all different coloured ribbons and the effect was amazing! Also a Steam Punk wedding which was an amazing experience. The attention to detail that the couple created was brilliant, including the goggles sitting on the Groom's top hat......made by the Groom himself! And the Bride's dress was gorgeous, different shades and layers of lilac & purple. I loved it!!

Describe your typical process with a couple.

Once a couple has decided to use my services for their wedding, we book a consultation to discuss their floral requirements. This is a relaxed and informal meeting, when we cover everything they require for their wedding flowers, from bouquets & buttonholes to venue & reception flowers. A booking fee is also payable at this consultation, to secure the date and exclusivity for their wedding. (This is non-refundable, but is deducted off the final balance). Following this initial consultation, I will email a preliminary quote to the couple, to give them an idea of costs so far. The final quote will be sent once all the wedding flowers have been finalised. The couple can contact me as many times as they require to discuss their flowers, make additions or subtractions to the order, change delivery details, or arrange to visit the venue with me, to discuss the floral decorations.

What is the most interesting thing you have put in a bouquet?

Pine cones (as mentioned before). Small shells which were wired into a bride's bouquet for an ocean themed wedding (the bridesmaids carried conch shells filled with flowers and the same design was used as table centre pieces). Brooches and jewellery; I have been asked a few times to attach a brooch or locket that has huge sentimental value, to a bouquet. Peacock feathers and cogs added to buttonholes for a steam punk wedding. Star Wars Lego characters for a wedding on May the 4th!

Is there a flower that has specific symbolism that you would recommend for couples?

Lots of flowers have certain symbolism, for example, lavender means devotion, rose means love or desire, ivy represents friendship, rosemary for remembrance. Some brides like to include certain flowers for their meaning and roses have certainly been the strong favourite because they represent love. But I would say to a bride to choose the flower that is significant to them. There may be a flower that has a personal meaning between the bride and groom (he may have bought her tulips on their first date for example) or she may have a favourite flower that she wants to include in her bouquet. This way it makes the bouquet more personal to the bride.

What is the most romantic flower and why?

Some would say the rose, but I think that all flowers are romantic! Nothing is more romantic than being given a bunch of flowers, whether on Valentines Day or for a birthday, as it's the thought that makes the gift romantic. Traditionally the Groom pays for the Bride's bouquet, making this the most romantic bouquet of flowers he will ever give to her!

What should you do with the flowers after the wedding?

If the bouquet is the hand tied style, keep it in a vase of water, changing the water regularly and it should last for another week. If the flowers are arranged in an oasis holder, try and keep the oasis wet to extend the life of the bouquet. Fresh flowers are not going to last forever, however there are companies who offer wedding bouquet preservation, if a bride wanted to preserve the bouquet itself. Also it is a lovely gesture for the Groom to buy his new wife a bouquet of flowers on their wedding anniversary each year, to include a selection of the flowers used in the bridal bouquet. As an alternative, a lot of brides are having silk flowers in their bouquets, so that they will have them forever.
