Andrew Brannan Photography Full Description
I am a photographer because I love the craft, and I photograph weddings because I find human expression, and the connections we make, truly captivating. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a firm believer in the institution – marriage is a big deal – but one of the reasons why I’m so damn excited to do what I do is because of the energy that exists in these meaningful celebrations. My style is intrinsically linked to my view that photographs are like windows. I won’t orchestrate your day with cliché or posed shots, or make you do the same thing five times. I also don’t do pretty for pretty’s sake. I prefer real, natural, candid images, packed with emotion; the kind of images that transcend time and take you right back to how you felt in that moment. I have always been a creative soul. I spent 10 years working as a sound designer for TV and Film in New York City and Los Angeles before I decided that being a photographer would make me happier. I dove headfirst into the world of weddings by pestering my favourite wedding photographer into allowing me to assist him. I carried his bags, set up his lights, and found drunken Uncle Buck from the bar all while soaking up every piece of knowledge that he could offer me. I later moved up to be his full –time second shooter until I moved back to the UK and set up Andrew Brannan Photography. I am now based in Frome, but shoot many weddings in the beautiful cities of Bath and Bristol, and often travel throughout the Southwest.

The best of the best!!
Andy did our wedding on Saturday and we could not have asked for a better photographer! From the word go he was great, he knew exactly what we wanted, he made us feel very comfortable and has already (less than 24 hours later) sent us a little taster of the photos! If you are after someone who will take the most amazing, artistic and natural shots of your wedding, Andrew is your man!

I dont't now how he does it
What a great day - It's so tough to remember everything, but having just received our INCREDIBLE photos from Andrew, it all comes flooding back, and will be vividly remembered for the rest of our lives! Andrew managed to capture so much that I'm sure other photographers might have missed. How did you do it? You were everywhere! You managed to make everyone so relaxed, and the result is spectacular, so thank you it's massively appreciated.

Thank you!!!!
The most amazing, hardest-working photographer I have ever come across. Andrew's images perfectly captured our entire day and even the smallest moments you wouldn't have thought about. The effort that Andrew puts in is absolutely incredible, even seeming to be everywhere at once in order to get those perfect shots. He immediately felt like one of the wedding party and put us all completely at ease, especially with the getting ready shots in the morning. I couldn't recommend Andrew enough. The images have come out even better than I could have hoped for and he has managed to perfectly capture the love and happiness of the whole day. Thank you for everything

Amazing photographer and now our friend
I cannot recommend Andrew enough. He photographed our wedding in May this year and I cannot even begin to describe how incredible our photos are! Andrew is so hardworking and such a lovely person to work with. We have such an amazing array of different types of photos - from perfect formals to the most amazing in the moment shots. Andrew really knew how to capture the day completely and us as a couple. He's organised and thorough with all the pre-wedding forms etc. so we felt completely at ease in the lead up to the day. Andrew was with us from early morning to the evening dancing and his upbeat, fun personality made him so great to have with us on the day. We also loved having the engagement shoot as part of the package as it was great to get to know Andrew and get used to being in front of the camera. Thank you so much Andrew. We are so grateful for all the amazing work you did and for having our day captured so beautifully.

Our lake district wedding!
We just could not recommend Andrew Brannan more highly. We asked him to photograph our wedding, after we had seen his beautiful photos from two friends’ weddings and we are so glad that we did! He worked absolutely tirelessly all day to get the most beautiful shots. The photos really capture the whole mood of the day, the fun and laughter, which means that we feel like we are reliving it when we look through them. We also don’t know how he seems to have been absolutely everywhere at once, never missing a moment. We are so grateful to Andrew for all of his amazing hard work. Thank you!!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your most memorable wedding?

I have shot a few weddings in the past where one of the couple's parents has been terminally ill. For me it's a huge privilege to document that day and give the couple images they can treasure and look back on for the rest of their lives! I strongly believe that weddings aren't just about the couple, they are a celebration and joining of two families - and the way that I photograph is with this in mind.

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Artistic, Fun, Elegant, Beautiful, Meaningful

What about your business are you most proud of?

I pride myself on me being me, and I think its really important as a Wedding Photographer to retain your authenticity. I also give my clients 110% at every wedding!

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Delegate! Set jobs for your ushers and bridesmaids to do. Of all of the couples that I have worked with, the ones who were least stressed out were the ones who were organised, and got organised early on in the planning process.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

I love all personal touches at weddings. They make an already memorable day all that much more special. If I had to choose one I think I would say that it was from a recent wedding. The bride (who used to be in a choir) organised a surprise song for her new husband just after their wedding ceremony. She gathered all of her girlfriends in the front of the church and they all belted out Sister Act's I Will Follow Him. It was pretty powerful!

Describe your typical process with a couple.

I document the day as it unfolds and tend not to interfere in anyway. I choose the right space and light for my couples, but other that that I just go with the flow. In regards to pre-wedding communication, I provide the couple with a questionnaire to fill out, ensuring that I understand what their priorities are. There are never any guarantees of course, but it's a great jumping off point and I always do my best to get the shots that the couple is after!

What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?

Confetti shots are awesome! I also really love candid shots. Most of my favourite photos of myself with my wife are of us - not posing - and in the middle of some wacky or emotional exchange. I definitely always keep this in mind when I shoot weddings, as I think that the photos which people will treasure most are the ones which tell stories.

What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?

This is a hard question to answer. To be honest, my style is more candid and documentary (I don't stage any shots) and the couples that I work with come to me for this very reason. I've got plenty of original and wacky shots, but those are just ones that happen naturally and without any intervention!

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

Wellies, umbrellas and a great sense of humour!

Describe how you got into photography.

I started like most people: I got bought a film camera when I was a youngster and I have been hooked ever since! When I decided that I wanted to get into weddings, I pestered my favourite photographer into assisting him and then just worked my way up the ladder. I now repay the favour and mentor other people who are looking to get into wedding photography.
