Darren Irwin Photography Full Description
The north east has some incredible wedding venues and I’ve been lucky to work at most of them, photographing weddings for amazing couples. Choosing a wedding photographer is not easy. We’ve all been to those weddings where the photographer insists on endless group photos, or where the bride and groom disappear form the party for hours to be photographed. I don’t think that’s a particularly good way to spend the afternoon of the most important day of your life and I guarantee there’ll be none of that! The amazing couples I work for want to spend the day with their family and friends. They don’t want to have to pose and smile for a camera for hours. Your wedding is going to be the biggest, most exciting party you’ve ever been to. I want you to enjoy every second of it! If you do want any of the formal family group photos, I’ve developed a system that can get them all done in about 10 minutes, and my bride and groom portrait sessions are always really natural and quick. My goal is to document your day without getting in the way of it. I like to keep things really simple. I offer one simple wedding photography package that has everything you need. If you want to add an album, of course you can, but that’s not something you have to think about now.

Frequently Asked Questions
(10)

What is your most memorable wedding?

I love all weddings so it's hard to choose!

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Modern, Natural, Dramatic, Creative, Fun.

What about your business are you most proud of?

I get to photograph what is usually the most important day of my clients' lives. It's an honour to do that, every time.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Plan early! You'll be amazed at how quickly the big day comes around. Get everything booked and confirmed as soon as you can and then you can relax and just look forward to the party of your life.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

The father of the bride playing guitar and singing the bride's favourite song at the reception.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

I like to do everything personally. Wedding photography is a big investment and I want my couples to meet and get to know me before the big day. That's why I always offer a free in person consultation prior to booking. Then we meet again a few weeks before the wedding to discuss the details and time line. Often, my clients like to add a pre-wedding shoot. These are always great fun and a great way to get over any camera-fear you might have before the big day itself. On the day of the wedding I'm there from the preparations in the morning until the dancing in the evening. I have a discrete style and never get in the way of things. Even the bride and groom portraits are done really quickly. After the wedding, I work hard to process and edit the images and aim to have them delivered within just 3 weeks. From then, most couples choose to add an album and we work together on that creating an amazing wedding book of memories.

What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?

Every wedding is different and every couple is different. It's a little old fashioned, I know, but I think every bride and groom should have an amazing photo with their parents on their wedding day.

What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?

A bride's new tattoo.... but I won't tell you where it was!

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

Don't stress. It won't help! If it does rain, it rarely rains all day non stop so there's usually an opportunity to get outside. Also, there are some incredibly cool special effects we can do if we get a little drizzle! I even bring white umbrellas to every wedding just in case!

Describe how you got into photography.

I used to be a professional musician. I was lucky enough to work around the world doing that and I got into photography because I wanted to photograph the places I was visiting. I quickly realized that I prefer photographing people and I started shooting portraits and headshots. Then families and weddings.
