Full Description
- Hello! I’m Steve Yates, a Lake District based wedding photographer. I specialise in two main styles of wedding photography. I take natural storytelling images, capturing the important moments and expressions as they happen. I also do beautiful and dramatic couple shots, making the most of the stunning landscapes and venues we have here in the Lake District and Cumbria. I love capturing emotions and natural moments and creating simple, beautiful images that stand the test of time. I have worked at venues all over the Lake District and Cumbria, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Northumbria and the Borders, photographing around 700 weddings and over 1000 portraits. I love what I do, more than ever, and I would be privileged to capture and retell the story of your day. Weddings are one of our major and pivotal family milestones; they bring everyone together and reaffirm family bonds and lifelong friendships. My job as your wedding photographer is to capture these moments and the joy and emotion of the day, unobtrusively but beautifully. My wedding photography is mainly observational & documentary throughout the day time. I do the family and group shots in about 20 minutes. I like to keep it simple, with a minimum of fuss, by sticking to immediate family and the wedding party. Then, since you have chosen to get married in the Lake District and assuming to wish me to, I will create some stunning images of you both using the landscape in a creative and contemporary style. If you choose not to do this then no problem at all, simply carry on celebrating with your family and friends! I will carry on shooting what happens, with a 5-10 minute mini portrait shoot just to make sure we have some lovely images of you both on your own!

What is your most memorable wedding?
It was a very small wedding with 13 people at Wasdale Head at the end of winter. That couple had met there and got engaged there so it was a really significant place for them, and they were so lovely!
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Natural, relaxed, storytelling, creative & dramatic
What about your business are you most proud of?
The multitude of happy clients that I work for, they make it all worthwhile.
What is your #1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Do all your planning in advance then on the day FORGET about it and let other people do the worrying. It's your special day, make sure you sit back, relax and enjoy yoursefl!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
I had a groom who suprised his wife during the speeches with a 4 1/2 foot high piece of granite upon which he had carved a poem for her. It took 50 hours to make it!!!
Describe your typical process with a couple.
They book. They get married. I shoot to tell the story.
What is the #1 photo that you think every couple should take?
There isn't one particular photo that I'd recommend, I think the photos always look their best when bound together in a book. That way you can almost read the excitement, joy and emotion of the day.
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
I feel that if the shot has been planned and I've been asked to do it then it's not original at all!
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Just relax and enjoy it, it's your day so why let a pesky little thing like weather get you down?
Describe how you got into photography.
I started shooting for climbing magazines when I left school and it kind of snowballed from there!
