What is your most memorable wedding?
My first. The couple knew it was my first. They were welcoming, patient and accommodating and the resulting images were beautiful. The day was just perfect from start to finish, weather and all.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Dramatic, cinematic, aspirational, observational and unobtrusive
What about your business are you most proud of?
That I enjoy exceeding the expectations of my clients
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Be realistic about your timings so that you don't have to stress on the day
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
The bride's father had died earlier in the year. At a family function a few years earlier her father had been filmed singing a song to his wife wearing a yellow rose. Yellow and yellow roses were used in the details throughout the day and the couple danced their first dance to a big screen projection of that video of her father singing. Gives me chills even now.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
On the day I'm at your disposal. We would have discussed the day in detail beforehand and decided on the best approach for the photos and it's my job to make that all happen with the minimum of disruption. That said, nothing is set in stone and I'm flexible when I need to be to accommodate unforeseen issues or the couple simply changing their minds.
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
Everyone is different. I don't think I'd specify an exact image but I like to take the couple out for 5 minutes as the sun is going down. It's beautiful light, we get some great shots and the couple always appreciate 5 minutes of time to themselves at that in the evening.
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
The groom and his boys were all firemen and before I knew it, they were all up in a tree asking for a photograph. Firemen in a tree. That's the one.
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Embrace it. Never try and hide it. Get some colour coordinated umbrellas, some classy wellies and act like nothing is out of the ordinary. A good photographer will make the best out of any situation and rain is no different. For group shots, make sure there is a space indoors and that your photographer is prepared for low light group formals.
Describe how you got into photography.
I am a musician and I love music and music in film. That led me to combining music with imagery which led me to start my own video production company. While video tells a story in many images, I was intrigued by telling a story in one image and so I got into photography with the express aim of creating a cinematic style that is enhanced by natural light or natural looking artificial light to create singular images that stand out.
