- My clients hire me not just to take their photos but to help them through the day. Often, at least one of the couple are uncomfortable with the idea of having their photo taken and what sets me apart is how I overcome these hurdles and put both the bride and groom at ease. The moments no one sees are often the most intimate, where the new husband and wife enjoy a moment to themselves, or embrace the occasion with their friends and family. My photos capture that and allowing those interactions to take place naturally, and not staging them, is what sets me apart. It’s important to blend in at the ceremony and reception to ensure the couple and their guests are relaxed and not conscious of their photo being taken. Clients often tell me after viewing their photos that there are images of events & memories they didn’t even know took place and how special that is to them.

What is your #1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Try not to stress about planning as it takes the enjoyment out of it!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
Candles lit for relatives or friends that have passed. It gave me a lump in my throat and will have this at my own wedding next year.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
I initially meet the prospective clients at their reception venue. I find out as much as I can about them, what they like, what they have planned for their day and in their minds what they want from their photographer. I ask them what packages they’re interested in and go through them, or I’ll run through all the options that I offer. I always show them some example albums and recent galleries from my portfolio. If I’ve shot their venue before, I’ll show them full galleries from those days. If the client is having a pre wedding shoot, I would usually have a chat with them before the shoot to discuss how their plans are going, any concerns they may have about photos or family conflicts etc, as I feel it is important to know this. We’d then go over my suggested 'formal photo checklist' which I’ve created following previous weddings of customers wanting the same combinations. I ask for the names of all immediate family members and Bridesmaids/Groomsmen so that I can compile a list. This reduces group photos to about 20 minutes at each wedding! 1 month before the wedding, I touch base again with the bride and groom to confirm the day’s proceedings and cover off any last minute changes or requirements. The day before wedding, I sometimes speak with the bride again to confirm arrangements for the ‘getting ready shoots’ and I confirm what time I’ll be arriving.
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Usually there won't be a wedding where it is raining ALL day.
