What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Try not to stress about planning as it takes the enjoyment out of it!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
Candles lit for relatives or friends that have passed. It gave me a lump in my throat and will have this at my own wedding next month!
Describe your typical process with a couple.
I initially meet the prospective clients at their reception venue. I find out as much as I can about them, what they like, what they have planned for their day and in their minds what they want from their photographer. I ask them what packages they’re interested in and go through them, or I’ll run through all the options that I offer. I always show them some example albums and recent galleries from my portfolio. If I’ve shot their venue before, I’ll show them full galleries from those days.
If the client is having a pre wedding shoot, I would usually have a chat with them before the shoot to discuss how their plans are going, any concerns they may have about photos or family conflicts etc, as I feel it is important to know this. We’d then go over my suggested 'formal photo checklist' which I’ve created following previous weddings of customers wanting the same combinations. I ask for the names of all immediate family members and Bridesmaids/Groomsmen so that I can compile a list. This reduces group photos to about 20 minutes at each wedding!
1 month before the wedding, I touch base again with the bride and groom to confirm the day’s proceedings and cover off any last minute changes or requirements.
The day before wedding, I sometimes speak with the bride again to confirm arrangements for the ‘getting ready shoots’ and I confirm what time I’ll be arriving.
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
This is a hard one! I'm not really one for poses as such, just try and ensure my couples take 10-15 minutes for photos and also time out for themselves!
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Usually there won't be a wedding where it is raining ALL day.
However, if it is one of those days.. I'd suggest taking some comfy shoes and going out for some photos after your wedding breakfast..
I always take umbrellas with me and sometimes the best photos are taken in the rain! (Or I'll at least get soaked ha ha)
