Full Description
I mostly shoot documentary style photography, as for me the day is really about capturing real moments. I will make sure that you are relaxed and have fun on your wedding day and that it shines through on your natural photos. 90% of the day is photographed in this way. As well as this, I absolutely love spending a short amount of time with each couple to capture some beautiful portraits. This may take place in the middle of the day, but also in the evening too where we can hopefully make use of the perfect sunset light. If we aren't blessed with great light then I like to get creative by introducing my own lights to produce some really dramatic and stunning portraits. I include a free engagement shoot so that we can meet up over a drink or a brew so that we can get to know each other. This really lets me understand what is important to you and helps me to tell your story.

Personal Message from the Manager

Name of Wedding Contact: Heather Butterworth
Hello! Thank you for taking the time to find out more about me and my work. For me, photographing weddings is about so much more than posed shots. I want more than that for you and I want your photos to be more than just photos – they should speak the truth and be meaningful to you both. In decades to come you need to be able to look back and remember all the love and emotion on the day but also the small details that you may not always remember, or have even known about!

What is your most memorable wedding?

Oooow there are so many! The Lake District is my favourite place in the world - I go up there a lot with my husband and son, so when I was asked to do a wedding at The Burnside Hotel I jumped at the chance! Skiathos was also amazing - the colours in the med just look so beautiful in that warm light - light is sooo important.

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Elegant Stylish Natural Beautiful Storytelling

What about your business are you most proud of?

Pouring all my thoughts and creative ideas into my business and seeing it grow and grow has been wonderful. I love it when I get feedback from couples when they receive my photographs, it makes me so proud - producing something so meaningful to others is a special job - I'm very lucky to do this for a living.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Focus on what is important to you both and take it from there.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

A bride wrote an individual note to each of her guests and left it with their wedding favours on their table which they all opening when they sat down for the wedding breakfast. In her note she explained exactly why they had been invited to the wedding. It was a lovely personal touch that didn't cost anything and the guests loved it because is was to personal to them and their relationship with the bride and groom (although most got emotional!).

Describe your typical process with a couple.

Firstly I have a quick chat on the phone and then I send them my wedding guide. We then arrange a time to meet up and also plan an engagement shoot where we have a brew and have a chat about their day. A week before the wedding I give them a quick call to make sure everything is ok and to remind them of arrival times etc. By the time we get to the wedding day I always feel like we are friends, which is really important in getting natural fun shots (you need to be relaxed with me and my camera)

What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?

Every couple should get just 10 minutes on their own to take some time out and be together. Wedding days are so busy - it's none stop all day so some time out to reflect is always welcome and we will get some stunning photos of you both at the same time.

What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?

One couple really wanted photograph of them both together at sunset, but it was a very cold October day and it rained none stop. The sky was full of grey cloud and so there was non sunset to be seen! I kept an eye out for when the rain stopped and ran outside to set up some lights that replicated a sunset! The couple were thrilled and said it was their favourite shot - they still have it as their profile photo on Facebook!

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

I do a lot of work with off camera flash so we can produce some creative shots inside if going outside is not an option. These photos always have the wow factor to them so the rain is not a problem for us.

Describe how you got into photography.

I studied photography at Art College around 2000! This was before digital! I ended up taking design work and then became a project manager, but my heart was always in photography. Three years ago I took redundancy and used the money to turn my passion into a career and I haven't looked back since!
