Sophie Oldhamstead Photography Full Description
Hello! I’m Sophie & I’m a wedding photographer primarily covering Suffolk & Essex, but I do travel throughout the UK & abroad a couple of times a year. I take on up to 30 weddings per year so I recommend booking around 18 months – 2 years in advance for the most popular dates. I am available weekday evenings via zoom & some weekdays to meet up for a coffee (and a cake!) to discuss your wedding and what you’d like from your photography before you decide to book me so you can be sure I’m the best photographer for you. Please do have a look around my website to get a feel for my work, I have sample galleries from real weddings to view, a page for all those questions you may want to ask as well as my blog where I update my latest sessions and weddings. Pop over to my instagram too where you’ll find some behind the scenes updates and the latest sneak peeks!

We loved having Sophie be our photographer
We loved having Sophie be our photographer at our wedding. The meetings that we had before the wedding were informative and helpful and made us feel at ease that Sophie is the right person for the wedding photos. On the day of the wedding she was amazing she wasn't the type of photographers who force the situations when taking photos and tries to make it as natural as possible which is great! She was very professional but in every way was also personable. The photos she took were amazing and her ideas for the photos as well were all different. We would highly recommend Sophie as she did such a good job and appreciate her being there to capture our special day.

It felt like meeting up with a friend
Sophie was our wedding photographer in Sept 2016. She was amazing leading up to the wedding helping with all sorts of queries and very quick at replying. We had a lovely engagement shoot, she thought of everything. On the big day she took the most beautiful wedding photos we could have wished to have, and a lot of the time we forgot she was even there! She is so good at capturing the moment without you realising, which is just what is needed on your big day! We would 100% recommend her and will be using her in the future! As soon as we met Sophie we knew we wanted to go with her as it felt like meeting up with a friend, she makes you feel so relaxed.

What is your most memorable wedding?

I have lots of memorable ones, the ones that really stick out for me are some of the couples that turned into friends not only clients, from meeting them before booking, to venue visits, random meets for coffee cake and wedding chatter plus engagement sessions its not unusual for me to be friends with couples long after their wedding is over. Its one of the best bits about my job, I love seeing what happens next for them!

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Real. Natural. Beautiful. Fun. Relaxed.

What about your business are you most proud of?

Everything, I absolutely love what I do and I think I do it well, I get good reviews from my couples and most of my bookings are via recommendation which is something I'm incredibly proud of. I was nominated for The Wedding Industry Awards this year which is nominated and voted for by real couples - one of my proudest achievements to just be nominated was so lovely.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Chat to your suppliers and choose the people not on price, offers, sales etc but on who you get on with, trust your instincts!

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

I once had a wedding where the bride's brother was in a band and had recorded a whole album of love song covers and they were played throughout the day, that was really lovely.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

From the first enquiry I send over some more information about me, ideally meet up over coffee & cake to chat some more. When a couple books I send them a little welcome package, keep in touch with them and meet up again around 6 weeks before the day to go over their timeline and plans for the day. After the wedding I post a sneak peek within 48 hours and I aim to return their full gallery within 4 weeks.

What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?

One of the two of you exactly how you are, not posed, not set up just a sneaky shot where you don't know its been taken, whether its playing about, cuddled up together, just walking hand in hand. You have to trust your photographer to give you the space to do that and that they will take that shot at the right moment. Its an art in itself just to capture people in their true honest form.

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

Wellies, a brolly and an open mind ;)

Describe how you got into photography.

I've always loved photography, my mum should have been a photographer and we always had tons of family albums and were in front of the camera a lot. I never thought it was something I could do as a job as surely a job is something you don't love but you have to do right? Well turns out I was wrong, you can absolutely love your job!
