Full Description
If you are looking for an alternative to a standard religious or statutory civil ceremony then hiring an Independent Celebrant is the perfect choice. Like Humanists, we create moving and beautiful wedding ceremonies which are personalised to each couple we work with. However we are also able to include spiritual content so if you are an inter-faith couple you may incorporate the rituals of one or more of your cultures or backgrounds as part of your ceremony. Celebrant-led Weddings are also a perfect option for couples who have had a destination wedding abroad and wish to hold a Blessing amongst extended family and friends on their return. Most couples simply wish to hold a personalised Wedding Ceremony amongst friends and family in a place that is not a traditional wedding venue or perhaps isn't licenced for marriage. They may choose to exchange their vows outdoors at the family home, on a beach, in woodland or a barn. Many couples now book a whole weekend to celebrate their wedding, often 'festival-style' with tents, marquees or tipis and friends camping. The civil marriage registration is taken care of in a separate brief appointment, splitting the legal and ceremonial side of the wedding - much as happens across Europe. Baby Naming Days and Vow Renewals are also a speciality; I love creating happy days for happy families!

What is your most memorable wedding?

This has to be Anna and James' wedding which was featured in Rock n Roll Bride ... they really went to town on personalising every aspect of their day starting with their ceremony which included a London gospel choir, a mid-ceremony surprise karaoke, both Mums delivering a very funny poem complete with actions, and giant confetti cannons exploding over them at the kiss finale. They followed a strolling jazz band to their village fete-themed reception where they played silly games and a tug of war, and performed a perfectly choreographed first dance later that night!

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Caring - Creative - Celebratory - Professional - Proficient

What about your business are you most proud of?

I am so proud to have had my several of my couples' weddings appear on three of my favourite Wedding Blogs: Rock N Roll Bride, Festival Brides, and Whimsical Wonderland Weddings. It's not what we do this work for, but it's still lovely to get the recognition!

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Have fun with your wedding day and really try to make it as personal as you can - that way it stays memorable in your guests' minds for a long time. You only do it once!

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

Individual wicker picnic baskets for small groups of guests or friends filled with vintage crockery and cutlery, a blanket, a bottle of Prosecco and a selection of chutneys - guests then added to this from tables of breads, cold meats, cheeses and salads. A very relaxed picnic-style Wedding Breakfast!

Describe your typical process with a couple.

Where possible we meet up first to see if we might be a good fit. I bring example scripts from real weddings to my couple consultations. We discuss your ideas and I make suggestions, before drafting and writing a ceremony script that is completely tailored to you in terms of spoken content, and as many ceremony enhancements as you wish. You might choose a unity ceremony such as candle lighting, or sand pouring, or a hand-fasting element to your ceremony. These are poignant moments remembered by your friends and family and make incredible photo opportunities too. With experience of many different ceremonies I am well placed to advise on stage management and the look and feel of your wedding ceremony, and offer a rehearsal as standard in my fee.

What is the most unusual thing you’ve been asked to plan?

I am currently working with a lovely couple who wish to have their cat involved as a Bridesmaid in their wedding ceremony - on a lead!

How do you ensure a stress-free wedding?

I always rehearse and practice the ceremony with my couples - this really helps settle any nerves and ensures everyone knows their role, and where they're supposed to be at any given time. I like to think my calm professional approach helps during this process.

What do you love most about your job?

I love that I get to work with so many truly lovely couples and their families - it really is a pleasure and a privilege to do this and call it a job!

What is your favourite moment at a wedding?

Seeing all the happy smiling faces of guests gazing on as my couple say their wedding vows to one another - that's priceless.
