The history of this stately home can be traced back as far as 961 AD, recorded in the Doomsday book. It was gifted to the Bishop of Winchester by the reigning King. It was used as a priory for the monks of Saint Swithun, before being acquired by King Henry VIII for use by the Royal Court. Portraits of the Tudors and Kings still hang on the walls of this incredible estate. The estate was then passed through multiple royals, including King Charles II after his return from exile. It was saved after its occupation by the army during WWII by the Hickson family, who remained in residence until the property was sold in November 2020. Today the parties still continue!
