Every step of the way your wedding celebrations become part of the rich tale of Basing House creating memories you will cherish forever. The romantic ruins, charming Jacobean Knot Garden, Tudor Great Barn and nearby river walk offer the perfect backdrop to create the most stunning memorable wedding and plenty of opportunities for photographs. We have two spectacular wedding settings - the Tudor Great Barn, meadow and cart shed or the museum and knot garden, both licensed for marriage and civil partnership ceremonies. Offering wedding ceremonies, wedding receptions or both, Basing House offers flexibility and exclusivity for all couples and is available for hire from early morning till 10pm every day. With only fourteen late night wedding receptions a year and only one wedding per weekend you are guaranteed our full attention and excellent one to one service. A nationally important heritage site the story of Basing House dates back to 1100 when the de Port family built a Norman Castle on the site. Developing and involving over the years under the loving care of the Paulet family the site became the largest private residence in Tudor England. Always a romantic destination the grand Tudor mansion was the honeymoon location for Queen Mary I and Philip II of Spain. With the family remaining ever loyal to the crown the grand mansion was dramatically sieged by Oliver Cromwell during the English Civil War and was left to become the battled scared ruin we see today. You will never find a more romantic and tranquil venue for your special day surrounded by stories of stately grandeur, royal romance, heroic deeds and infamous battles.

Basing House is a stunning heritage site set on the edge of a sleepy picture-perfect postcard village in Hampshire. We are proud to offer this beautiful historic site full of charming and original features that you can style and make your own for your wedding. We love hosting weddings at Basing House and we cannot wait to start working with you to plan your dream day. My husband and I got married here before this became my day job so I'm able to give you first hand experience and advice.

It could not have been more perfect!
This historical landmark is one of the most scenic and beautiful venues I've ever seen while also keeping a relaxed and chill vibe. It's super flexible to suit whatever your needs are, and you're supporting charity when you book it! The wedding coordinator and venue manager have both been extremely helpful over the full 3 years we have had this booked. They have always had time for us and invaluable advice and guidance.

An amazing place for a wedding
An amazing place for a wedding. I attended a Hindi wedding and the staff were so accommodating. The gardens are just breathtakingly beautiful and perfect backdrop for wedding. The main barn is stunning when decorated with lights and flowers. The venue is large and would accommodate 250 people with a good space for dancing the night away.

A Perfect Setting
We scoured the country for a DIY venue that could house our large numbers, offer us flexibility to bring our own caterers and provide our own drinks, and offered a beautiful drop. After endless searching, we found Basing House - 3 miles from where we lived!! We never knew they hosted weddings and that is another thing that makes it so brilliant. It is a breathtaking venue that doesn't require much decorating as it does all the hard work for you. The site is beautifully kept and offers plenty of options for breakout spaces, catering and seating. The barn is set alongside the crystal clear River Loddon which again makes for a great entrance for your guests while the Knot Garden provided a lovely backdrop for photographs. We had to postpone our wedding dates three times and waited three years but the staff at Basing House were supportive and helpful throughout. Kirsty (Coordinator) was reassuring, knowledgable (having got married at the venue herself!) and very friendly. Don't be put off by the 10pm curfew - the pub opposite (The Crown) offers a late licence and was also very accommodating of our 'After Show Party'. All of our guests said what a beautiful day it was, and the barn played a big part of that. We love walking by now and remembering what a special day it was in such a stunning venue.

Everything we wanted and more
We had our wedding here on 4th June. After having had to postpone our big day twice due to COVID, and having had bad experiences with another venue, we couldn't be more glad that we decided to go with Basing House as our venue. David and Kirstie were amazing throughout the preparations, and made sure our wedding was everything we wanted and more. The venue itself is just stunning, and made for a beautiful place to have our fairytale day.

Simply awesome
My sister had her wedding here this weekend and the co-ordinator Kirstie was simply awesome. I work in the wedding industry and have worked with many a less competent soul so to have the pleasure of someone so lovely and good at their job was a joy! Excellent venue for a wedding, we had the most wonderful three days - I'm including the set up and packing away because even that was lovely in such surroundings! Thank you Kirstie, you are a gem!

Stunning rustic venue which puts its couples first
Basing House was exactly what my husband & I were looking for - an elegant all-in-one venue with character & the wow factor. The best thing about Basing House is its flexibility - you can really do whatever you need to make your dreams a reality. No corkage fee, no strict list of suppliers to choose from, flexible ceremony options, acres of grounds to take pictures - if DIY is your vibe, this place is for you. Best of all, they have limited weddings every year so it feels very exclusive.

Describe the best wedding that happened at Basing House?

My own! My husband and I married at Basing House (before it became my day job) because it suited our personalities and we were able to tailor our suppliers to suit our budget. We enjoyed a casual picnic style wedding breakfast complete with garden games and sack race competitions, and then a posh bbq in the evening with a disco and sparklers. Just perfect!
