- An entertaining sort of place Bateman’s Barn South Elmham has a unique and real history of hospitality. Wealthy medieval bishops held court here, catering for their guests with rich pickings from the local land. Across the fields and ancient deer park, an important Minster attracted travellers and pilgrims. Today, as a conservation-conscious farm and family-run business with nearly 20 years’ experience in hosting weddings, our South Elmham island continues to extend a warm welcome - to all couples and their friends and families. Flexible and friendly, Bateman’s Barn prides itself on being a real place where couples can celebrate themselves. Our completely tailor-made wedding service means you design the ceremony and celebrations you want – your way, not ours - be that indoor or out; lavish, simple or wonderfully original; buffet, banquet, live band or disco. Real peace of mind Whatever you choose, simply relax in the knowledge that our experience is on hand to ensure everything goes to plan without fuss or worry. We can advise on timetables, catering, drinks, room layout and decoration just as much or as little as required. We’ve also lots of local supplier contacts to share, from cake-makers, coach companies and ceilidh bands to florists and firework specialists. Somewhere for everyone Imagine having a space for the kids to let off steam; a warm, quiet corner for babes in pushchairs; a comfy spot for a natter, away from the music, but close enough to still feel part of things; plenty of dance floor for party animals; a smokers’ corner and bonfire to toast marshmallows on – not forgetting a well-stocked bar too. Bateman’s Barn South Elmham has it all – and it is exclusively all yours to enjoy. We hope that you like what you hear and what you can see at batemansbarnweddings.co.uk. If you have any questions or would like to come and feel the place for yourself, do just give us a call. We look forward to welcoming you in the Waveney Valley soon.

Location & Contact Details
Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?
Without a doubt the best wedding was Dave and Shirley Girling 10 years ago but they did so many quirky and original things from make your own hat and button hole (there were some beauties my favourite was a whole banana which doubled as a snack and later just the skin was being being worn) to home made lanterns brought on the day by their guests to adorn the venue. Dancing competition with blue peter badge prizes. Bowler hat cam recording the bridegrooms eye view of the day with music from the Muppets theme to I'm a purple people eater and the entrance of Darth Vader from Star wars, Brilliant we keep in touch even after a decade and I still tell people about this wedding.
What’s your #1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Its all about the people they need to be relaxed and at home from start to finish because they are what makes the day.
What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
I love the little corners couples set up to celebrate their families, old wedding pictures and guests that could not be there are featured along side candles, flowers and favorite tipples!
Describe your venue in 5 adjectives.
Rural, relaxed, unique, adaptable and romantic
Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?
Out in the landscape the possibilities are endless
Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?
Yes, but I cant say who as it was part of the arrangement!
What’s your favourite canapé?
You still can't beat the simplicity of a beautiful warm buttery puff pasty little home made sausage roll topped with poppy seeds especially as everyone from the little kids to the grown up love them.
What’s your favourite midnight treat?
Hot chocolate every time my lovely husband makes us hot chocolate when everyone has toddled off to bed and we have finished clearing up and getting ready for breakfast but its usually 3am!
What is your venue's most unique feature?
We have a fabulous 500 year old ruined gatehouse and 800 year old ruined church.
What part of your business are you most proud of?
All the conservation and green measures we keep at the forefront of everything we do
