Full Description
Housing the finest set of 18th century chandeliers in the world and coupled with impressive architecture and portraits by Gainsborough and Ramsey, the Assembly Rooms makes a stylish and truly historical setting for a wedding. Featuring numerous times in Jane Austen's novels, particularly Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, and in some of Charles Dickens' works, this really is a special place to get married, and is a true testament to Bath as a wedding destination. With its elegance, historical importance and quality food and service, the Assembly Rooms has everything necessary for a stylish city wedding. There are four inter connecting rooms of varying sizes providing versatile space for weddings with 50-300 guests. The Great Octagon holds up to 120 guests for a ceremony and features four original marble fireplaces and the largest chandelier in the collection. The Tea Room with it's stunning double columned balcony, original fireplaces and three stunning chandeliers makes the perfect backdrop to ceremonies for up to 250 guests. For larger groups, the Ball Room, with its intricate plasterwork, five chandeliers and stunning balcony is the largest eighteenth century room in Bath and can accomodate up to 500 guests for a truly spectacular ceremony. In addition to these rooms, the Card Room can be used as a bar and, with access to a small formal garden, it is a lovely choice for summer drinks.

FAQ

Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?

We have hosted many beautiful weddings, but one of the most memorable was a 17 hour affair! It included a Sikh religious ceremony, a civil ceremony, a British modern wedding breakfast, and finally a curry buffet and bhangra disco. The colours, sounds and tastes were all amazing, and we were all pleasantly exhausted by the end of the day!

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

It is really important to have a showround with the team before making your booking, and to ask as many questions as possible. Let the team know if there is something that you have always dreamed of, so they can suggest the most suitable venue for you.

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

One couple hand made models of scenes from popular movies, which they used as their table decorations, from Star Wars to My Neighbour Totoro. They were amazing and so creative.

Describe your venue in 5 adjectives.

Elegant, historic, romantic, beautiful, stunning

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?

Under a chandelier

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?

No celebrity weddings, but we have hosted lots of filming. Ralph Fiennes and Keira Knightley starred in The Duchess, with some of the filming taking place in the Tea Room.

What is your venue's most unique feature?

The nine Whitefriars crystal chandeliers, original to the building, and reputed to be the finest in Europe.

What part of your business are you most proud of?

We are proud that the Assembly Rooms are still used for their original purpose, hospitality and entertainment.
