Amazing elopement wedding!
We chose Berwick Lodge for our elopement wedding. We arrived the day before the wedding and had the afternoon tea in the gardens, followed by a massage - both were wonderful. Our wedding day went very smoothly - we did all the planning with Simone (who sadly could not be there on the day) but Jo who looked after us was up to speed with everything and she ensured we had the most wonderful wedding day. The ceremony room was beautifully decorated, we then had a photo shoot in the grounds of the hotel, followed by cake and champagne in the garden and the evening meal in the restaurant (all meals cooked to perfection!). We could not fault anything about our stay at Berwick Lodge - the staff, the food, the suite and the wedding day itself were truly wonderful. We are already looking forward to returning to Berwick Lodge again! It's also worth mentioning how lovely it was to meet Sarah (the owner), and see how much she cares about the place, she appeared very hands on, helping with anything that was needed, always with a big smile on her face. Thank you so much Sarah, Simone, Jo and all Berwick Lodge staff! You'll definitely see us again! :)

Magical, wonderful elopement
Had a magical, wonderful elopement at this beautiful little hotel. We stayed in the Lydia suite which was simply stunning with a really opulent feel and a lovely balcony upon which we sat and quaffed champers! The hotel is posh without being snobby, beautifully decorated and sparkling clean. COVID protocols were adhered to carefully in order to not detract from the atmosphere and ambience of the hotel which we really appreciated. Simone our wedding planner was a star from start to finish, ensuring our 2 day package and wedding ceremony went without a hitch. She and Phoebe (another member of staff) acted as our witnesses and helped to make our ceremony a fun and exciting event. We enjoyed afternoon tea, a brasserie meal and a 6 course taster menu with wine flight, all delicious and beautifully presented. Our elopement package also included a couples massage which was awesome and a wonderful, characterful photographer who made the experience such fun. We are excited to see the pics!

Tremendous staff in a difficult time
Our wedding was booked for Saturday 21st March 2020. On the evening before, due to the Coronavirus all venues were told to shut. My now wife was staying there with family and friends. As you can imagine she was devastated. Wedding reception and evening party cancelled, and all rooms booked also. What to do! The hotel staff were so apologetic, even knowing it was not there doing. The register then advise they would still perform the ceremony, but only with 10 quests, not the 80 booked. When knowing this the Berwick staff. Did their upmost to arrange the ceremony room, and set the cake in the restaurant. The photographer attended and we were able to get some lovely photos. If only with the small group. Before the hotel shut. After becoming husband and wife and preparing to leave. The hotel brought out a number of main meals to take away and also the desserts in travel boxes. This enabled us to have a reception at home and some sort of day. A fantastic gesture. And the food was lovely. The following week a refund was agreed and deposited in our bank. All the way through the planning of the wedding to the actual day. Simone, Jo and all the staff have been tremendous. All I can say is thank you again.

Couldn't fault anything
We had our wedding reception here last September. we only had a small intimate wedding and felt a nice meal would be ideal. from the moment we contacted berwick we were speaking to the lovely Simone, she was absolutely amazing dealing with our requests from start to finish. nothing was ever a trouble for them. everything on the day went smoothly, everyone was so welcoming, the food was amazing, everyone enjoyed it. Simone was there with us the whole afternoon making sure everything was going okay. I couldn't fault anything. the service was second to none - so thank you so much for accommodating us. Even though we didn't have exclusive use, it felt as if we were the only ones there, the other guests were so respectful which was also lovely.

FAQ
(10)

Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?

What a question and almost impossible to answer! The best weddings are always the ones where you can feel the love in the room – some weddings are just full of so much love and emotion it’s hard not to get caught up – especially during the ceremony. This year one that stands out is Claire & Grant's wedding at the beginning of March. Their guests weren't going to let the unexpected snow stop them from coming from London and South Wales and there really was an extra special magical feeling in the air.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Don't be daunted! There's so much help and advice available out there (mostly useful) from personal recommendations, wedding websites and forums and - probably the most valuable - your venue's wedding coordinator who knows local suppliers well and can offer suggestions to keep things running smoothly. Also, don't fret about timescales, it is possible to organise a wedding in 6 months or less too!

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

Kate and Ben had a very personalised wedding at Berwick. They not only had their own Kate and Ben logo that was on everything, there were many touching family and friend links. Kate wore a comb in her hair that was made from pieces of family jewellery that had been broken through the years, an anklet made by her best friends, her late Grandfather's watch held the bouquet today and parents/grandparents wedding photos took pride of place on the cake table. Their beloved pet whippet came to the ceremony (and had her silhouette printed on a souvenir tea towel) and Kate made creative origami style table centres out of old university text books that both she and Ben used to use.

Describe your venue in 5 adjectives.

Elegant Friendly Unique Relaxed Personal

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?

The favourite spot has to be underneath our marble pergola with rose garden walkway in the background. It's such a distinctive and romantic structure and has the backdrop of the orchard. Other popular photo spots are the tree swing, summer house, fountains and from the top of the spiral staircase looking out across Monmouthshire.

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?

We've had celebrities stay as guests in the hotel but yet to have a celebrity wedding guest - watch this space!

What’s your favourite canapé?

Either the Smoked Salmon & Crispy Bagel with Spiced Avocado or Truffle Honey & Goats Cheese on Parmesan Shortbread - it's too hard to choose just one!

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

Pulled Pork Baps with Wedges

What is your venue's most unique feature?

The marble pergola

What part of your business are you most proud of?

I'm proud of the way all the staff pull together to make the atmosphere fun yet relaxed. This is reflected in the many thank yous we receive from wedding couples who return as regular guests, and sometimes become new personal friends.
