Crathes Castle Full Description
This enchanting 16th-century castle, with its beautiful walled garden, expansive grounds and a dedicated event space (the Horsemill), is a versatile venue for weddings, meetings, team-building events and corporate entertaining. Inside you’ll find a labyrinth of cultural history, from family portraits to fine antique furniture. The walled garden is a wonderful jungle of history, split into eight sections that encompass every green delight imaginable – sculpted topiary, soft herbaceous colours and modern exotic blooms. The massive yew hedges are thought to have been planted as early as 1702. What could be more romantic than an idyllic Scottish castle with winding staircases, turrets and towers set in manicured grounds with an enchanting walled garden? Exchange your vows in the Golden Garden with the castle as a backdrop, or in the castle’s Great Hall with delightful views over the walled garden. Afterwards, sip champagne as you enjoy a game of croquet or tour of the castle before being piped to dinner in the Great Hall or Horsemill. For larger weddings, a marquee can be erected in the grounds. Surrounded by rolling countryside, Crathes Castle offers a rural retreat just 15 miles from Aberdeen city centre. The castle is steeped in history, with strong ties to Robert the Bruce, and our knowledgeable staff are always on hand to give guests a flavour of the estate’s history, myths and legends.

I attended my brothers wedding in the garden of Crathes Castle last Saturday and it was the most beautiful place for a wedding I have ever seen
I attended my brothers wedding in the garden of Crathes Castle last Saturday and it was the most beautiful place for a wedding I have ever seen.. The weather was fantastic and the lone piper playing in the backround set the scene. While the Bridal party got photographs taken, the rest of the guests got a tour around the castle. The tour guide was very informative and friendly. It was great to find out the history of the Burnett family and also the castle. The tour lasted around 40 mins. What a great idea at a wedding to see such natural beauty in Aberdeenshire! All the staff were very friendly and I will certainly go back and visit the castle again. Highly recommend.

This was the location for our wedding and we are so glad we choose it
This was the location for our wedding and we are so glad we choose it. The setting is very romantic and dramatic. Made us feel very special. The main hall was perfect for 50 adults sitting. A beautiful room with many things to catch the eye as is the rest of the castle. The staff decorated the stairs with flowers which look beautiful and afterwards we had drinks out on the lawn which everyone loved. The grounds are perfect for wedding photos with many little nocks and crannies for photos with such a gorgeous back drop. But the staff have to be one of the best things about Crathes as they could not have been more helpful. A big thanks to Julia and her staff. We had the most perfect day.
