For some time I have wondered if I should leave a review for Lemore as I really don’t like giving bad reviews but I feel a duty to inform others out there who may be considering this venue.
In light of COVID19 we understandably became concerned about what this would mean for our wedding. We contacted Lemore at the start of lockdown to ask questions such as what a social distancing wedding might look like in the venue, how many guests this would be able to accommodate and what our options are, they explicitly said they are ‘not in a position to discuss’ and are still yet to answer any of our questions. The only option they have given us is to go ahead with the wedding without our closest loved ones this year based on their feelings of 'optimism' as they ‘deny any reason why your wedding can’t go ahead as planned’. We can only reschedule the date if we lose our deposit of about 6k and pay a new deposit as if it’s a new booking (which would have been an option in any case regardless of COVID19), this is effectively making the consumer pay for the impact of the pandemic. On top of this they have said that if we do not go ahead then we owe them 100% of the total cost of the wedding (possibly 25k+). We feel trapped between losing £6000 to postpone, having a compromised wedding or paying a huge bill for no wedding and no services provided. Underneath the pleasantry is a strict and unreasonable business model. Please read the contract carefully before signing anything, we have legally been advised it goes against the consumer rights act and against CMA guidance.
There is more that I can say, like they have a high turnover of staff so be prepared to go through many wedding co-ordinators and the drinks prices are extremely expensive, but I think there are already enough points raised here.
I now know I'm not alone in my experience, there are many couples who have been affected, worse than I have, they have given thousands to Lemore with no services provided and no indication of any money being repaid and it has devastated them and their families. I would hate for anyone else to go through this or be going through this during this pandemic.
We know it is hard for venues, it is hard for everybody at this time, but this amount of unreasonableness is unacceptable.
When looking through reviews for wedding venues, my advice is to be aware of the sites where reviews/comments can be deleted, like on Facebook. Look for reviews from recent brides (rather than suppliers or friends/family of the owners) to see how the venue has been supporting them (or not) during this extremely difficult time. I applaud those venues and suppliers who have been supportive of their couples, shown compassion and discussed options, it is unfortunate that I cannot say that about Lemore.
I have written this review keeping my name confidential.
If anyone has been affected please e-mail, you are not alone:
