Full Description
The Great Drawing Room, completed in 1863, provides an elegant escape in picturesque Victorian surroundings and is ideal for those seeking classic sophistication. With spectacular views of the north-west gardens, it is the picture-perfect setting for an intimate wedding breakfast and can accommodate up to 76 guests. In the evening you can continue your day with additional guests up to 120 for a buffet using The Library, Entrance Hall and grounds. At Rothamsted Manor, we take pride in offering you our undivided attention. Many venues book more than one wedding on the same day, however with our exclusive use packages yours will be the only wedding taking place. Newly appointed Kingfisher Caterers are now the sole caterer here at Rothamsted Manor. Kingfisher has been established for over 30 years and has built an enviable reputation as one of the leading caterers in the Home Counties; a family run business; led by owner Dan Kempson and his team since March 2010. Kingfisher has many years of experience in all types of wedding catering and work closely with their clients from the initial enquiry right up to the last guest leaving at the end of the day. Their aim for all of clients is very simple – to provide great food along with friendly and professional service and help ensure that your wedding day is a truly memorable one. With a vast selection of menus there is a style for every type of wedding whether being a traditional three course wedding breakfast or a more relaxed barbeque service. Kingfisher also offer a full range of canapés, evening food options and drinks packages, making them a supplier who can provide everything you need in one place. Kingfisher Caterers and Rothamsted Manor - the perfect marriage!

FAQ

Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?

All our weddings have been wonderful so it is impossible to choose one! We love to see couples enjoying the happiest day of their lives, chatting, toasting, eating, drinking, dancing and having fun.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Make sure you have a budget in mind at the beginning. Be realistic about what you want to spend. Don't get carried away. And take time to really think about what you want from your day.

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

Handwritten places names done by the bridal couple.

Describe your venue in 5 adjectives.

Elegant Stylish Historical Magical Beautiful

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?

There are so many, it's hard to choose! If you are choosing us for your wedding ceremony, then the beautiful Library is perfect for wedding ceremony photos, with it's wood-paneled walls and ornate fireplace and ceiling. The Great Drawing Room is the ideal setting for wedding breakfasts and evening parties with the wonderful fireplaces, the stunning paintings and windows. Alternatively our extensive grounds make for the perfect outside photo spot, whether you prefer the rose archway, near to our sculptures, or in front of the ivy-glad gables. The other two areas that are popular with brides are the beautiful staircase and the orangery with the gardens in the background.

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?

Yes, but we never reveal that!

What’s your favourite canapé?

It's a real dilemma! It depends on our mood, but we are very fond of the crayfish and lemon mayonnaise canapes, as well as the avocado smash and roasted cherry tomato crostini! There are so many more though, and sometimes we love the pork and sage bonbon with apple chutney or the beetroot and goats cheese mousse on rye bread.

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

It really depends! The street food option in our evening buffet menu has a delicious Katsu curry, or there are the ever popular fish and chip cones, or the pulled pork tacos, or even the good old retro vol au vents!

What is your venue's most unique feature?

We truly believe our Great Drawing Room to be unique among venues. The historical significance, the beautiful coats of arms in the stained glass windows, the incredibly ornate fireplace and ceiling, and the wonderful paintings of a bygone era make our venue truly unique.

What part of your business are you most proud of?

We are especially proud of the fact that our venue is based on strong sustainability principles. Our income is invested back into the ground-breaking and world-renowned agricultural research that takes place at Rothamsted, into tackling climate change and focuses on food security to help feed the world from less land.
