Full Description
CURRENTLY TAKING BOOKINGS for 2022 we are fully booked for 2020 and 2021 Shillingstone House is the family home of Sir Michael and Lady Salt and is the perfect venue for a country house wedding. Set in a secluded position and surrounded by the rolling hills of Dorset, the extensive grounds are yours for the 4 days of your wedding. A day for the marquee to go up, a day for decorating, a day for your ceremony and party and a day for brunch or barbeque with friends who have travelled far. The fourth day the marquee goes down. The gazebo in the garden is fully licensed for Civil Ceremonies so you can get married outside. Your marquee can come right up to Gazebo so whatever the weather your celebration will go ahead. Space to glamp/camp on Friday and Saturday night is available and a fully furnished bell tent can be hired if the bride and groom wish to spend their wedding night in the walled kitchen garden. We only hold 6 weddings a year and like each one to be individual. You choose your own suppliers from Marquee company to catering service but we can give you advice if you wish. We do not charge corkage. You can decorate the marquee/gazebo/grounds etc. as you choose and we like to feel that Shillingstone becomes your home for the 4 days of your wedding. If you look at the blog on our website - - you will find pictures of our past weddings with links to their suppliers. You can see that we have held every type of wedding here with catering from hog roast and fish and chips to full sit down dinner - everything is possible! You can let off fireworks if you wish and bring your favourite pet but we need to know in advance so as to make arrangements for livestock. Get in touch and come and visit - you need to see the grounds to realise their full potential.

Glorious August Wedding
This was the first and last wedding we visited - what a treasure! The quintessential country house, stunning flower filled gardens, backdrop of unspoilt ...countryside and warm and generous owners made this a perfect choice for our informal county fete themed wedding.

5 stars isn't enough for this beautiful setting
5 stars isn't enough for this beautiful setting. Sir Michael and Lady Caroline Salt made our wedding set up so easy and relaxed. They went above and beyond for us and are such lovely people. We celebrated our wedding on Saturday 18.08.18 and everything went so smoothly and exactly as we had wanted. The house and grounds are absolutely stunning and with the extra option of camping for our guests, it just made it so much more relaxing. Thank you so much for allowing us to share your beautiful home on our wedding day xxx 21 August 2018

Rain brought the ceremony insided
Hayley's mother kindly wrote to say a big "Thank You" and said "You made the venue look wonderful, and turned what could have been a disastrous day (dreadful weather!) into an amazing event" which made all the rushing about well worth it!

Wedding of our dreams
From the minute we saw Shillingstone House and met Caroline and Michael we knew that this was the place for our wedding. The gardens are incredible and the freedom we had to make the wedding really ours was perfect. Caroline and Michael are the kindest, calmest and most amazing humans we could have asked for, they even managed to keep my mum calm in the run up to the wedding and that is saying something! We really had the wedding of our dreams and the venue was perfect from the beautiful gardens, to the amazing bell tent field though to watching the little ones play football in the field the morning after I would do it all over again and for sure do it at Shillingstone House. The perfect venue for our perfect day.

Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?

Again we have had so many different caterers here and each one produces something different and new

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

Country House/Rural/flexible/fun/beautiful

Describe your venue in 5 adjectives.

Its grounds and its ability to offer a blank canvas - each wedding is totally amazing and totally different

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?

Again too many to choose - we ask that the photographer comes to the venue before the wedding to choose their favourite spots.

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?

Too many to choose! They are all so different - from the bride who colour themed the things she made for the day to the bride who made her own cake, to the couple who made the tent reflect the countries that they came from to the one whose families had grown all the flowers banked around the marquee.

What’s your favourite canapé?

Our relationship with the bridal couple and their families and the positive feedback we have received. "5 stars isn't enough for this beautiful setting. Sir Michael and Lady Caroline Salt made our wedding set up so easy and relaxed. They went above and beyond for us and are such lovely people."

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

Make the day your own but don't overdo the decorations or you will be exhausted by the setting up! Set your theme and then look at Pinterest or your mind will boggle!

What is your venue's most unique feature?

Our weddings are all so different that it is impossible to chose the best one. Some are planned on a tight budget and some are more lavish but all have been hugely enjoyable for us and more importantly for the couples who have taken the venue.

What part of your business are you most proud of?

gathering round the fire-pit when the generator goes off, cooking marshmallows, lighting sparkler and continuing the party into the night.
