Full Description
To create your dream wedding you require a fairytale location. New House Farm situated in the stunning Lorton valley and surrounded by the Lakeland Fells is that unique and special place. Originally built in 1650, New House Farm has retained many of its original features but combines them with a touch of elegance and sophistication to create an atmosphere of a bygone era. Sitting rooms with open log fires, individually designed bedrooms with heavenly beds, delicious duvets and wonderful changing views go to create this unique private venue. The secluded gardens, babbling brooks, enchanting pond and stunning Lake District scenery add the finishing touches to a fairytale wedding and provide the perfect backdrop for memorable romantic photographs. The wedding receptions are held in The Hayloft of an original Lakeland barn which has been restored to the highest standards with traditional materials. Bright and airy with a graceful combination of rustic chic and modern facilities the oak beams are offset by the natural exposed stone walls. The Hayloft can cater for up to 130 people with the added benefit of having its own professional kitchen. This stunning blank canvas allows you to put your style and mark on your special day. Exclusive use will provide you with two nights of accommodation in our bespoke country house. New House Farm is a perfect location for your winter wedding. Surrounded by stunning scenery, rolling hills that go on for miles, what better setting could you ask for of crisp snow-topped mountains and glistening waters. Our winter weddings run from November until mid-March, at a reduced costing. For smaller weddings we offer a mid-week wedding package which is available at a reduced cost. You will have access to the barn from Sunday Afternoon until your special day to decorate how you please. For intimate weddings with up to 20, our licensed room within our country house will create the perfect backdrop for your special day.

Hazel, Many Thanks for an amazing day. Everyone thought the venue was amazing and the weather was astonishing for the Lake District. We will send you photos from the day for your website and will include a few words of recommendation for other guests. Beyond any expectations we could have had.
Thank you so much for making our day so special, beyond any expectations we could have had. You were always so in control and relaxed, we felt completely at ease before and throughout the day - without you it might have escalated into manic! New House Farm is possibly the most magical wedding setting and we will cherish our memories for the rest of our lives of such a special day - although we are determined to make regular visits to NHF as much needed romantic get aways so we can't wait to see you again soon. It was an absolute pleasure Hazel, Thank You.

Perfect Autumn Wedding in the perfect location.
Perfect Autumn Wedding in the perfect location. I have been meaning to write this review for a while and although life takes over, this wonderful venue and Hazel deserve the 5* rating and review I am about to leave. My husband and I were married at New House Farm on 2nd November, 2019. I found out about this venue after a friend attended a wedding here in 2016. When we did start to look at venues after getting engaged, we fell in love with New House Farm and didn't bother looking any further. Hazel who owns New House Farm, was amazing from start to finish. She was more than welcoming whenever we wanted to come and see the venue, size things up and speak to her about potential companies to source for catering, entertainment etc. This instantly put me at ease, as although I am from the Lake District, I am now living in Cheshire and planning a wedding when you live in a different County can be a little daunting at times. What made this venue more appealing to us was that the Hayloft where you hold your ceremony and reception can be made to look exactly as you want. It certainly isn't a conference room that you need to dress up, and that was exactly what I wanted to avoid. So many people commented on how beautiful the venue was and how much they loved the location. It really is a gorgeous place to get married. You can't deny the backdrop is amazing here for your wedding photos and with Buttermere lake only a 5 minutes drive away, you have so many options for stunning photos. A few days before the wedding we were given the Hayloft to start our wedding preparations. This really helps as some of the companies you hire will come in and start setting up early for you. It also gave us the chance to do some of the decorations ourselves and it gives you a really good idea what your venue will look like on the big day. The night before, I chose to stay in the Farm House with my bridesmaids. This was such a lovely setting to be in the night before the wedding and use of the hot tub was the perfect addition. On the day of the wedding itself, Hazel was there to answer any last minute questions, deal with all of the companies coming in to set up and generally look after the wedding party and a cooked breakfast on the day was certainly a welcomed addition. The day went so smoothly and I cannot thank Hazel enough for that. She will make sure every bride and groom feel completely in control and at ease on their big day. In summary, if anyone is thinking of staying here for a break away or booking the venue for a wedding. Please do not hesitate! The venue is stunning, the scenery is amazing, the farm house is cosy and welcoming and Hazel is just fantastic. I know every bride will say this but i genuinely wish we could do our day all over again at this fantastic venue.

Stunning venue
Hi Hazel, I saw your post on Facebook and it reminded me that I haven't sent you any pictures from our wedding last October so I hope these are of interest - maybe you've seen some already that Jason Chambers posted. Thanks again for helping to make our day so special. It's difficult not to get nice pictures at such a stunning venue. Thanks Lucy

The colours around are so beautiful
Hi Hazel I hope you are well, and have had a lovely Christmas. Sorry this has taken us so long, but attached are a few of the fab photos from Thomas from our wedding. We didn't receive them for a little while as he'd been pretty busy, and then I have no idea where the weeks have flown since then... It's lovely looking through them and remembering the day (and that we didn't dream the whole thing!). And looks so fab even in the rain - the colours around are so beautiful. 😊 Thanks so much again. We'll be back soon enough to say hello, I'm sure. All the best, Jennie and Eoghan

Travel Notes

By car Some Sat Navs take you a very strange way and in fact lead you to a farmhouse four fields away. Sadly, in the countryside you can’t rely on being taken straight to the correct door. Postcodes will get you to the general vicinity and some even mange to bring you straight here, but they seem to go berserk about a couple of miles out. Bring back the good old map I say! Try Google Map searching for ‘New House Farm’ and the post code ‘CA13 9UU’ and that should work. Otherwise For anyone travelling from the North or South, exit at junction 40 of the M6 and head west to Keswick and Cockermouth on the A66. The road bypasses Keswick and about 2 miles further on there is a road going left over Whinlatter Pass on the B5289 which takes you over to Lorton. Continue along this road for about 4 miles until the T junction then head left for Lorton – the SAT NAV will try to tempt you off to the left down various narrow roads before you get to this T junction – do not be tempted. Do not take any further turnings, just follow the road. Carry on through the bottom end of Lorton and down the valley for about 2 miles. New House Farm is on the left-hand side with a Cumberland or a St George flag flying (depending on how I am feeling). There is a big sign for New House Farm, a large barn, an off-white house edge in black and probably horses or sheep in the field. By train The nearest Railway Station is Penrith and the journey by car from there takes between 30 and 40 minutes
